Delineating the Official State of Ohio Boundary file involved extracting 45 NOAA NGS points out of the NGS data for Ohio, and 3 NOAA NGS points were extracted out of the NGS data for Pennsylvania. These 45 NGS points for Ohio fell along the MI/OH boundary and were used to connect the IN/OH boundary East to the Lake Erie Shoreline ODNR data, establishing the MI/OH boundary. Then, the Lake Erie Shoreline file was used to delineate the boundary along Lake Erie Eastward to the OH/PA state line. Those 3 NGS points extracted out of the data for Pennsylvania were then used to connect from the Lake Erie Shoreline Southward to the West Virginia Boundary establishing the OH/PA boundary. The W. Va/OH boundary was established by tracing the existing ODOT County Boundary file to the Official KY/OH boundary line. The KY/OH boundary was established by tracing the Official KY/OH boundary line Westward until the OH/IN border. The IN/OH boundary was established by tracing the existing ODOT County Boundary file Northward until the NOAA NGS point at the MI/OH State Line. Additionally, within Ottawa County, East Harbor, Middle Harbor, and West Harbor were hand digitized utilizing the latest available OSIP imagery (OSIP III imagery) as "inland" water bodies at a scale of 1:1,000.

Data Limitations:

Due to the lack of knowledge concerning data integrity, neither The State of Pennsylvania’s Official State Boundary file nor The State of Indiana’s Official State Boundary file were used in delineating the Official State of Ohio Boundary file. They were merely consulted and used as reference. Additionally, every effort was made to obtain useable NGS or local County Monument data, unfortunately no viable complete set was able to be obtained through Indiana Statewide GIS geodatabase, Penn State Data Hub, State of Ohio, or NOAA, or individual Counties within Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Indiana (a few Counties had monument data, however it was deemed not viable to use based on missing metadata indicating accuracy of points, or simply didn’t contain any points along the boundary).

The State of Indiana’s Official State Boundary file and The State of Pennsylvania’s Official State Boundary file were used as a reference; however, due to the lack of knowledge concerning data integrity they were not incorporated into the delineation of the Official State of Ohio Boundary file.
